Inher first novel, Beautywas accepted by the first publisher she sent it to, and she began her writing career, at age I highly recommend it to those who want something beautiful and complex to read. Deerskin Critique 1 Mar 26, I am happy to say that Deerskin is one of the successful endeavors, with its beautiful, languid prose, vivid images and descriptions.
As soon as Lissar was acknowledged as a person by someone, and not just a thing to get underfoot, that she was given a name. This page was last edited on 30 Julyat I know it probably seems inappropriate to be taking such a light hearted tone with such mckinleu serious book but I mean it with absolute honesty. Boring is a mild word for it – I’ve never read anything that dragged, and dragged, and dragged for pages and repeated the same sentiments so often. There was loyalty and puppies and a beautiful princess.
Not for every reader out there as it is pretty slow, but it’s just the story for rboin particular reader here.
The best part is Lissla’s relationship with her beloved Ash, where the love for the dog shines through. Like its fairy tale precursor, Deerskin has a significant moral. It was a powerful story but one that left me with a lot of questions, as well. I hadn’t read Robin McKinley before, but now will have to look at her other books.
I don’t know if it was because I knew exactly what was going to happen from the very start but what did I expect, this is a fairy tale retelling? I loved her character, I cried for her character, I rooted wholeheartedly for her character.

It can be hard after the brilliance that are Rose Daughter and Spindle’s End to realize that many of her books are just Lissar asks Ossin to explain who the Moonwoman is, and Ossin tells her it was a legend of a beautiful princess who was raped and then abandoned the earth for the moon when her father was dismissive of her.
However, if that’s something you can handle in the context of an amazing story of resilience, hope and new beginnings, then read this book. Deerskin is a fairy tale retelling about a princess who is raped by her father. And, it has a happy ending – one where Lissar is able to confront and defeat the monster of her past, and have a future of happiness and life.
It’s wrenching, maddening, lyrical, unflinchingly honest in the way of fairy tales, and it’s terribly sad.
So why three stars? Then I decided to pick it up again.

The queen mcckinley orders a portait to be painted, depicting her at the apex of her glory and, as her dying wish, extracts a promise from her husband that he would not marry again unless his new wife was no less beautiful than herself.
The goal is not to create a concrete world but to engage yourself in Lissar’s life, her struggles, and, eventually, her triumph. Share your thoughts with other customers. Read like a fairy tale and was a slow fantasy, but I really did enjoy it. Deerskin follows the story of mckimley princess who looks so much like her dead mother that she is brutally raped nearly killed by her own father and, in a delirium, escapes to a magical-ish cabin in the mountains to wait mckinlfy the winter with her super awesome fleethound.
It was the story, and I think it’s important that we have stories mckijley this, which explore horrible things without glorifying them or dismissing them as trivial. It’s actually not quite 5 stars, but I’d feel bad only giving it four.
I liked the ending with Ossin a lot. At this dark and threatening point in the story, the first hints of mysticism appear.
She escapes with Ash, and while she heals outwardly, inwardly she is destroyed. If those things appeal to you, maybe you’ll love this book. It’s difficult to know what to say about this book, and I can’t deers,in whether I enjoyed it or not. The final weakness of this story was the writing. Byy Lissar, who becomes Deerskin and Moonwoman, is the sole figure at the heart of this book, and on whose shoulders the tale’s success or failure rests. McKinley’s Lissar is a constantly evolving character.

This is That Book. Funnily enough, at the same time, McKinley fumbles when it comes to understanding how a rape survivor might finally be able to face the world again. Lissar escapes with her devoted dog to an isolated cabin in the robi, but for many months she’s delirious and barely functional.
